Understand how TextSentry works, what it can and cannot do, and the terms for using the app and website.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the TextSentry website and Android app. By installing or using TextSentry, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. TextSentry is early-access software; features and availability may change.
1. What TextSentry provides
TextSentry is an AI-assisted tool for identifying potentially unwanted texts, including political campaigns, voting reminders and marketing messages. It does not guarantee that any text is correctly classified, unwanted or safe. The website includes a fictional, scripted demonstration that does not analyze real messages or transmit SMS.
Manual Google Play-oriented edition: You expressly submit text for analysis, review an editable suggestion and decide whether to compose and send a response using your normal messaging app. This edition does not monitor your inbox or automatically send texts and is not currently published or approved on Google Play.
Experimental sideload edition: If you grant Android SMS permissions and enable monitoring, it can evaluate eligible incoming SMS. Sending an automatic reply is a separate opt-in. This experimental functionality is not available in the manual Play edition, and it does not support MMS, RCS or deleting original inbox messages.
2. Eligibility and acceptable use
You must be legally permitted to use the app and any associated services in your location. You are responsible for complying with applicable laws, carrier rules and the rights of people who contact you. Do not use TextSentry to harass others, send spam, impersonate someone, evade security measures, or conduct unlawful or abusive messaging. Do not attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer unlawfully, or interfere with the service or its infrastructure.
3. AI analysis, errors and your decisions
AI-generated classifications, probabilities and suggested replies can be wrong, incomplete or inappropriate. Legitimate or important texts may be incorrectly identified, and unwanted texts may go undetected. Review settings and suggestions carefully. In the sideload edition, you accept responsibility for enabling automatic responses and choosing confidence thresholds and filters. TextSentry is not an emergency service, security product, identity-verification system or substitute for reviewing important communications.
Replying to a suspicious sender—even with “STOP”—may confirm that your phone number is active and can lead to more messages. Sending a reply may also incur carrier messaging or roaming charges. TextSentry cannot guarantee that a sender honors an opt-out request.
4. Third-party AI and mobile services
Current Android builds use TypeSafe AI's Jev model and a user-provided API key. Message content submitted for analysis is transmitted to TypeSafe AI under that provider's separate terms, privacy practices, pricing and retention rules. Your wireless carrier, Android platform and messaging app also operate under their own terms. You are responsible for your provider account and usage charges. Do not submit sensitive information unless you understand the applicable third-party practices.
5. Accounts, subscriptions and future services
Google/Cognito sign-in, subscription eligibility checks and managed OpenRouter access are in development and are not currently available through the Android app or static website. No subscription, monthly allowance, free trial or managed key entitlement is promised under these Terms. Before introducing paid services, TextSentry will publish applicable pricing, renewal, cancellation and refund terms where required.
6. Privacy and local data
Your use of TextSentry is also described in our Privacy Policy. Current app builds encrypt locally stored message history and provider credentials, but submitted content is processed by TypeSafe AI. Deleting local history cannot erase information already received by an AI provider or your carrier. TextSentry does not delete original SMS from the phone's messaging inbox.
7. Availability, changes and termination
TextSentry is provided on an early-access, evolving basis. Features may be modified, suspended or discontinued, including if third-party providers, Android permissions or carrier rules change. You may stop using TextSentry at any time and uninstall it or clear its local app data. We may restrict access when reasonably needed to protect the service, comply with law or address misuse. Material updates to these Terms will be reflected by a revised date on this page; continued use after an update indicates acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
8. Intellectual property and software licenses
TextSentry's website content, names and visual assets belong to their respective owners. App source code may be available under the license stated in its repository; nothing in these Terms overrides that license or third-party open-source licenses. You may not imply an endorsement or affiliation not actually granted.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the extent allowed by applicable law, TextSentry is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of uninterrupted operation, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or freedom from errors. To the extent allowed by law, TextSentry's maintainers and contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, including missed messages, unwanted replies, data loss or messaging charges arising from use of the software. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded.
10. Contact and questions
For questions about these Terms or the service, use the TextSentry GitHub issue tracker; do not post private SMS, phone numbers or API keys. For confidential security issues, use private vulnerability reporting.
